Homeschooling: My Daughter Is Learning Cursive

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Aiyana’s is learning cursive. I found a great homeschooling website and we’ve been using it several times weekly. It’s called Basic Handwriting For Kids.

I print out sheets so she can practice her handwriting. She has been enjoying this immensely and has been asking me for more sheets. She is determined to learn to write just like mommy. Every night I spend time writing in a paper journal. She finds that fascinating and of course she wants to do everything that mommy does. I’m holding onto this time because I know before long it will change.

Homeschooling Update

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Homeschooling is going well. Aiyana is learning more with each passing day. Her reading has improved tremendously, and now she has graduated to “big kids books” of course, she is proud. Since she’s obviously ready we’ve been working on cursive writing. She’s so excited.

Her newest thing is making mommy greeting cards. She writes little messages, which she is extremely proud of, and hands them to me. Of course, mommy has to save every single one. I’ve been keeping them on file and using the remaining as bookmarks. What do the cards say? Usually, something as Mommy loves Aiyana or Aiyana loves Mommy. Her cards surely make me feel special, and I truly cherish the time we spend together.

I’m enjoying our homeschooling experience. I recently started working as a freelance writer so I’m adding more responsibilities to my already busy schedule. However I’m enjoying it immensely. I’ve always loved writing. It’s something I can remember doing since I was my daughter’s age. Writing for pay, well that seems perfectly natural. I have four regular clients that keep me busy, and I enjoy writing about what I truly love alternative healing, fitness, and nutrition.

As a business owner regardless of how busy I might become I always make time for my daughter. Fridays and Saturdays are “our days.” Fridays we usually go to Life Way Christian stores. They have story time. She loves it. The past two Saturdays I’ve been taking her to Chuck E. Cheese. She is especially fond of the big slide and of course loves playing with the kids there. My daughter definitely has no problem socializing.
